Christmas In July

Congratulations to "Brooke S.", the winner in Jacki's giveaway. Please contact JUST ROMANTIC SUSPENSE to claim your prize!

Have you noticed the spike in authors promoting their Christmas books? Across newsletters and social media, authors and readers are celebrating Christmas in July…but do you know how this summertime tradition got its start?

The first mention of “Christmas in July” is attributed to an 1892 French opera, but the tradition originated in 1933 at a girls’ camp in North Carolina. Others believe it got its start in Europe where people longed for the holiday spirit. For those in the Southern Hemisphere, whose seasons are the reverse of those in the Northern Hemisphere, meaning it is summertime when Christmas rolls around, Christmas in July provides an opportunity to enjoy the pleasures of the season in cooler weather.

Christmas is the most popular holiday in the world, so many people jump at any chance to embrace celebrate. Some go to the extreme of keeping a tree up all year. Others leverage the occasion as a marketing opportunity. Wherever you fall on the spectrum, have fun. Here’s to a holly, jolly, sunshiny Christmas in July!

All that stands between Viscount James Ashworth and a much-anticipated quiet retirement is one simple assignment: protect the Prince Regent at a holiday house party. Gwyneth has a secret mission of her own: prove she’s worthy of joining the Code Breakers, winning the heart of the hard-headed viscount she’s loved since they were children. Lord Nathaniel “Nash” Trentham, Earl of Wessex, chases Eliza through the snow as she makes off with his most-favored stallion. Nash must now save her, paying no mind to decorum and conventions.

Will Eliza be forced to marry the Earl and give up her passion for horses? Or will they find a compromise?

  1. The atmosphere is different. People are more open, giving, and happy (crazy holiday preparation pressure doesn't count). Getting together with family and friends home for the holidays that you do not often get to visit with is a nice bonus of the season.

  2. It's the one time a year the entire family is gathered together.

  3. I love the joy of the season reflected in my daughters' faces. Christmas seems to make people be more kind and considerate.

  4. Christmas is such a joyful time!

  5. The happy feeling you get seeing joy on people's faces.

  6. I love the scents of Christmas: Christmas trees, chocolate, gingerbread...

  7. I love how family make such an effort to gather. It's not always easy.

  8. I love the Christmas lights, decorations, carols, cold weather, wrapping presents and being with family!
