Top 10 Favorite Movie Kisses

Congratulations to "Colleen C.", the winner in Julie's giveaway. Please contact JUST ROMANTIC SUSPENSE to claim your prize!

I have been a fan of movies from the time my folks took me to see Mary Poppins as a little girl and I was enchanted. Over the years, I’ve developed several Top 10 lists on everything from favorite hero to most joyful scene to—you guessed it—my favorite movie kisses.

In my March 17th release, TARGET ON HER BACK, I wrote one of my favorite kisses ever between socially awkward brainiac Professor Gigi Brennan and my sidekick with a heart of gold hero, Detective Hudson Kramer. Here’s a brief glimpse of that scene:

He reached the edge of the porch before he felt a tug on the sleeve on his jacket. When he turned, Gigi’s fingers slid along his jaw to pull his mouth to hers. Her soft lips molded to his, branding him with her surprising heat. Her kiss was sweet and chaste and brave for this woman, and Hud couldn’t help but respond to her touch, to the fingers fisting in his jacket and scudding across the stubble of his beard to sink into his hair.

He settled his hands at her hips, sliding beneath her hoodie to find the slim nip of her waist. The tips of his fingers brushed against a strip of soft, warm skin between her top and pants, and the discovery triggered a satisfied growl in his throat. He held himself in check for as long as he could, savoring the tender, close-mouthed kisses. Her arms drifted around his neck, her fingers clutching his scalp, tickling the nape of his neck, pulling herself closer until her long thighs butted against his. His arms moved with the same leisurely exploration around her waist until he palmed the smooth skin of her back with one hand and squeezed a handful of that decadent bottom with the other.

Gigi’s sexy purr of frustration called to Hud like a siren. She wanted more and so did he. He lapped up her surrendering sigh and took over the kiss. He teased the seam of her mouth with his tongue, and when her lips parted, he drew her full bottom lip between his. He breathed in her warm vanilla scent and tasted the spice that lingered on her tongue when he thrust inside to claim her mouth…

Easing the tightness of his hold on her, he straightened her pajamas to cover her skin and rested his forehead against hers. Her glasses had fogged up to the point he couldn’t see her eyes, so he studied her pink, swollen lips and the slightly abraded skin around her beautiful mouth. “Damn, woman. I’m not complaining, but what was that about?”

“Me going after what I want. In case I have to wait another two years for my next kiss.”

Hud and Gigi’s kiss got me to thinking about other memorable kisses, and I thought I’d share some of my thoughts with you. What makes each scene my favorite can be anything from the steam or tenderness to the emotion or dialogue surrounding the kiss. It could be humorous, dramatic, or fleeting in the heat of battle. But, for whatever reason, the kiss left a memorable impact on me.

Here, in no particular order, are a few of my favorite movie kisses. I hope they resonate with you as much as Hud and Gigi’s kiss.

  2.    Easter Parade-Fred Astaire and Judy Garland
  3.    Raiders of the Lost Ark-Harrison Ford and Karen Allen

  1. Not really into kissing scene's in movies.

    1. Do you like them in books? To me, it's more about the emotional impact of that physical contact.

  2. For me, its when Rey and Kylo kiss at the end of the last Star Wars movie. It's not a romantic kiss but a kiss of gratitude from Kylo to Rey for never giving up on him in the end. Or the kiss that started it all...When Han Solo kissed Princess Leia before he went into the carbonite.

    1. Oh, yes! Han and Leia--yes, please. ;) They have a couple of great kisses in THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK. And I agree with Kylo and Rey. Didn't love everything about that movie, but that was a good scene.

  3. Pretty Woman’s first kiss was pretty significant because it meant she was falling for him since she told him up front that she didn’t kiss on the lips.

  4. Agreed. That's what makes the best kisses, I believe--the meaning behind the kiss and what it represents. PRETTY WOMAN is on my extended list. (I have about 20 faves!)

  5. #11 is the kiss at the end of OPEN RANGE between Kevin Costner and Annette Benning. He is so shy and respectful when he proposes and then asks, "And can I kiss you?" It was all about the connection, the faith she had in him.

  6. Love Lady and The Tramp's kiss... too cute!

  7. Replies
    1. Oh, yes. The kiss in the rain? A lot of passion in that movie.

  8. There are two kisses in PRACTICAL MAGIC,one in particular is amazing. Aidan Quinn and Sandra Bullock.

    1. You know, that's one movie I've never seen. I'll have to check it out.

  9. My favorite is from LAST OF THE MOHICANS. It is such a taunt, desperate situation, but still tender. I agree with you on BEAUTY AND THE BEAST (animated) and LADY AND THE TRAMP. Now I need to go watch all three movies again.

  10. Yes! LAST OF THE MOHICANS was a great movie. I believe Daniel Day-Lewis if he promises he will come back for me. <3 I had a huge crush on Eric Schweig, too.
