Three proud law-enforcement brothers and one black-sheep: Meet the Mighty McKenzies

With: Lena Diaz

On March 19th, with the release of SMOKY MOUNTAINS RANGER, a brand-new four-book Harlequin Intrigue series is born – The Mighty McKenzies.

Raised in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains, the McKenzies come from a long line of proud Irish men and women who dedicate their lives to helping others. The patriarch of the family, William, is a retired federal judge. His wife, Margaret, is a retired prosecutor. Together they became a legend within the law-enforcement community of their hometown of Gatlinburg. And they’ve passed on that tradition of hard-work and public service to their four sons—Adam, Duncan, Colin, and Ian.

Well, okay, maybe they really didn’t pass the tradition down to Ian.

The baby of the family, Ian was a rebellious teenager who had a rocky relationship with his father that spilled over to poison his relationships with the rest of his family. As soon as he turned eighteen, he left. And except for an occasional call to his mother, and even rarer visits home, he’s lost contact with his family. But is he really the rebel they believe him to be? Or is he hiding a secret from all of them that will change everything?

Over the course of the series, each brother will get his own book. And in the process of hunting down bad guys, they’ll each find their one true love—even Ian.

Who are these McKenzie brothers? While their Irish heritage is easily seen in their black hair and blue eyes, their personalities are as different as four brothers can be.

Adam started out his career as a police officer in Memphis. But he yearns to return home to be closer to his family. He also misses the gorgeous Smoky Mountains of his hometown, so he becomes a Law Enforcement Ranger with the National Park Service and returns to Gatlinburg. He isn’t in his new position very long before he comes across a man aiming a gun at a woman who’s backing dangerously close to the edge of a cliff. Adam’s quick thinking saves Jody’s life. But his own life is on the line when they end up on the run through the mountains trying to escape the gunman and his hired accomplices. Figuring out who really wants Jody dead, and why, will take her and Adam on a winding, surprising, and dangerous hunt for the truth. But finding that truth could ultimately destroy them both, and the fledgling love that has been building between them. This is an emotional roller-coaster of a story and I hope readers love it as much as I do!

The second book of the series features Duncan, a special agent criminal investigator with the National Park Service. Duncan is funny and sexy and the only person who believes FBI Special Agent Remy Jordan when she tells him her outlandish theory about a serial killer who may be stalking women in America’s national parks.

The third book forces Colin to face the truth about his past and what really happened the night he ran into a burning barn to save several people. Was the man he helped put away for the crime of arson really guilty? When that man escapes from prison, Colin is forced to confront the real truth, and work with the man’s sister—the same woman Colin had once loved and planned on being with for the rest of his life.

In the last book of the series, you’ll meet the baby of the family, Ian. With his spiked, blond-streaked black hair and dragon tattoos, he seems to have done everything he could to be as different from his father and brothers as possible. But when he puts his life on the line to save the victims of human trafficking, his family will learn what Ian has really been doing all these years that he’s been gone. And they’ll have to face the horrible truth of why he ran in the first place. In the midst of all that turmoil, it will be one of those victims who sees the real Ian for who he is inside, and teaches him the healing power of love and the value of family and forgiveness.

I’m SO EXCITED to share this new series with you. Next month I’ll be back on JRS with a giveaway of the first book in the series, SMOKY MOUNTAINS RANGER, which is up for pre-order right now! Here’s the back-cover blurb about Adam’s story…

A dangerous mountain escape.

An attraction neither can deny.

Adam McKenzie’s protective instincts are on overdrive, but Jody Ingram is no helpless victim. She refuses to abandon the injured ranger who saved her life despite the mysterious gunmen hot on her trail. When their forced flight through treacherous mountain terrain leads to unbridled passion, Adam must decide if guarding Jody 24/7 is worth the risk to his life and his heart…

  1. Sounds exciting! I love Gatlinburg, so a series set there should be fun. Looking forward to it! :)

    1. I love Gatlinburg too! The Great Smoky Mountains National Park is my favorite place to visit. Love the trails and waterfalls, Cades Cove, Clingman's Dome, and on and on. Just gorgeous. The awful wildfires there a few years ago just broke my heart, all the people hurt and killed. Just awful. I pay homage to the fires in the opening book, to a small extent. I hope you enjoy the series.

  2. I really enjoy books set in locations with which I am familiar. In this case, I am very familiar with the local. We live about an hour from Smokey Mountain National Park. This is just the type of series I enjoy. I look forward to reading it.

    1. I'm jealous that you live so close to the GSMNP! So beautiful there. I live in Florida, which is FLAT. Love the mountains and visit as often as I can. I really hope you love this series. It's one of my favorites that I've written.
