Q&A With NY Times Bestselling Author, Kat Martin

With: Kat Martin

Congratulations to "Colleen C.", the winner in Kat's giveaway. Thank you to all who participated!

Are you working on anything new right now that you can share with us?

2019 is going to be an exciting year for me.  Currently, I’m just finishing my first hardcover Romantic Suspense novel, Until Midnight, which is set to be released in January of 2019.  It’s the first book in my new Maximum Security series, based around the private security firm where Cassidy Jones works as a detective in Beyond Danger.  I fell in love with Chase Garrett, the owner, and the sexy bodyguards and private detectives who work at The Max.  I’m hoping readers will want to read more of their fast-paced, sexy stories.

Are there any other genres you have written, and what inspired you to branch out to them?

Originally, I wrote Historical Romance novels.   I did that for about forty books, then I wanted to try something different.  I’d always been interested in the paranormal.  I wanted to major in that in college but it didn’t work out.  I had an idea about writing stories about ordinary women who had extraordinary experiences.  The Silent Rose was my first, a ghost story based on a true experience my husband and I had in a bed and breakfast in Connecticut.  I’ve also written two short contemporary novels set in the fictional town of Dreyerville, Michigan, The Christmas Clock and A Song for My Mother, both of which had personal meaning for me.

Can you offer any advice to new or aspiring authors?

My best advice for new authors is not to give up.  The publishing business is extremely difficult.  Authors face company bankruptcies, crooked agents, and market changes.  If you want to succeed, you have to keep going--no matter what.  If you do, odds are you will succeed.

What’s your least favorite part of the writing process?

Everything about writing is difficult.  Having come out of the real estate profession where self motivation is the key to success, the discipline of actually working is the easy part for me.  I’d say the tough part is making all the pieces of the puzzle fit together.  I do my best to  make the plot difficult for the characters to solve.  The problem then becomes finding a way to actually solve it!  I spend a lot of sleepless nights trying to come up with plot solutions.

What is your all-time favourite novel?

I read a book many years ago--the first romance novel I ever read--which wasn’t supposed to be a romance.  It was a huge bestselling novel by Wilbur Smith called The Eagle in the Sky.  It was the most emotional book I had ever read, more so because I didn’t think it was going to have a happy ending.  Just talking about this book on this page brings a lump to my throat.  If you want to read a special, fabulous novel, read The Eagle in the Sky.

New York Times bestselling author Kat Martin brings page-turning suspense to a tale of secrets and passions turned deadly . . .
Texas mogul Beau Reese is furious. All six feet three obscenely wealthy, good-looking inches of him. His sixty-year-old father, Stewart, a former state senator no less, has impregnated a teenager. Barely able to contain his anger, Beau is in for another surprise. It appears that Stewart has moved an entirely different woman into the house . . .
Beau assumes that stunning Cassidy Jones is his father’s mistress. At least she’s of age. But those concerns take a sudden backseat when he finds Stewart in a pool of blood on the floor of his study—and Cassidy walks in to find Beau with his hand on the murder weapon.
The shocks just keep coming. Someone was following Stewart, and Cassidy is the detective hired to find out who and why. Now she’ll have to find his killer instead. Her gut tells her it wasn’t Beau. And Beau’s instincts tell him it wasn’t Cassidy. Determined to track down the truth, they form an uneasy alliance—one that will bring them closer to each other—closer to danger and beyond . . .

  6. I have been reading Kat Martin books since I first discovered romance, back when she was writing historical romances. I followed her to the paranormals and into the suspense sub-genres. I have enjoyed all of her books. She does an excellent job of developing complex plots with many twists that keep you involved with the story and the characters. Her characters are multidimensional and worth getting to "know." I have a shelf of her books that are either keepers or are waiting to be read.
