Don’t Judge a Book by Its Cover

Thank you so much, Maureen, for having us back. Happy New Year, everyone!

We're excited to introduce Trusting Danger, the latest in our series of standalone romantic suspense novels.

Sometimes the themes of books aren't obvious to the authors until after a book is finished. One theme we didn't anticipate as we were initially plotting out the story was perceptions. Claire's background and her father's status as a senator cause Grayson to perceive Claire a certain way.  Once he gets to know her, though, he realizes how wrong his perceptions were. How many times do we all do that in real life—make assumptions about others even before we know them?  Some food for thought in this new year.

January 4th is the release day of our second book, Trusting Danger, Book Two in the Danger Series. For a limited time, Trusting Danger is available for only $0.99. The first book in the series, Meeting Danger, a Kindle Scout winner, is available for $0.99 until January 11, 2018.

Can he keep her safe?

While investigating a drug ring, Grayson Matthews learns of a kidnapping threat and is tasked with safeguarding the daughter of a US senator. In the close quarters of a safe house, he fights his attraction to his protectee as he strives to learn who’s intent on kidnapping her.

Although born to a life of wealth and privilege, Claire Parker is tired of being told what to do. Normally a people-pleaser, she chafes against the rules of the man sent to protect her. He’s infuriating and bossy, and evokes a visceral response she’s never experienced before.

When a violent death links them in grief, Grayson and Claire must overcome their differences and trust in each other to unmask the kidnapper before it’s too late.

Trusting Danger is written as a standalone and is the second book planned for the series.

“We’re going the wrong way!”

The town car’s driver glanced at Claire in the rearview mirror but didn’t respond as he took the exit to a park, then pulled the car to a stop on the shoulder in a grassy area surrounded by trees.

She whipped her head back and forth, seeing no reason for the driver to have detoured from their route. “Is something wrong with the car?”

Gravel crunched as a dark SUV pulled up and parked in front of them, setting off alarm bells inside her head. Her heart pounding, Claire jerked off her seat belt and reached for the handle to shove open her door, preparing to run.

“Wait, Miss Parker.” The driver turned in his seat and caught her eye before pointing out the windshield. “He’s a government agent, and so am I.”

The adrenaline shooting through Claire’s system lessened only slightly as her gaze zeroed in on the tall, well-built man who stepped out of the SUV and approached the town car.

“What’s going on?” she asked, keeping a death grip on the door handle.

Before the driver could respond, the other man arrived at Claire’s window and tapped on it. With trembling fingers, she reached for the window button and pressed it, her heart hammering as the tinted glass slid down slowly.

“Miss Parker, I’m Grayson Matthews.”

Claire’s breath caught as she stared up into his handsome face, his upper lip and jaw dusted with a shadow of scruff. The man’s dark brows lowered over his sharp green gaze, freezing her in place as he pulled out a leather wallet and extended a silver badge, holding it for her perusal.

“I’m a federal agent with the Phoenix Task Force.”

Confused, she gaped up at him, his military bearing and impressive physique both intimidating and extremely attractive. The unexpected warmth zinging through Claire’s body dissipated as her thoughts spun. Her panic returned with renewed force and she gasped.

“My parents, are they all right?”

Agent Matthews frowned down at her. “You’re the one who’s in danger. Someone is trying to abduct you.”
