A Day in the Life of A Romantic Suspense Author

Giveaway Alert!

Usually you can find me sitting at my computer. Alone. At my desk. All day. Most every day. Writing in solitude. Sounds boring right? Honestly, it can be lonely, but then there are days that are exhilarating. Days when research takes me away out of my writing cave.

I usually write a law enforcement hero, so I do a lot of research on what a LEO might logically do in a given situation. And since I believe in getting my facts right, I seek out opportunities to gain information. Opportunities like local police academies are perfect chances to sit with actual police officers as they explain their jobs and answer questions. They also often allow the attendees to go on a ride-along and visit 911 centers and jails, all of which I have done. And even a chance to meet with firefighters to try out their tools to remove a car’s roof.

But my most exciting research day, and one that I gained valuable insight to use in my latest release, Fatal Mistake, was range day at the FBI.

After six weeks of hearing talented agents talk about their job, mission, and heart for law enforcement, the academy participants trekked out to the FBI’s local firing range. Under the supervision of seasoned agents, we shot weapons—handguns, rifles, and semi-automatics.

I have to admit it was a fun day. Informative, too, providing me with information and motivation to write a romantic suspense book that was timely to today’s world. I was able to gain so much information about bombs and bomb detection. Even how bomb techs safely detonate a bomb. And we got to try on one of the heavy suits worn by bomb squad techs, and blow things up. Here’s a video from the day where you can hear the firing range in the background. The explosion, though it seems small on the video, what huge and shook the ground.

I came away from this academy with a pressing desire to write about FBI agents so I created the White Knights, a six-person team of law enforcement professionals who first sacrificed of themselves in the military and now serve the public as FBI agents. A Critical Incident Response Team, the Knights stand ready to deploy within four hours, anytime and anywhere, to mitigate the highest-priority threats facing our nation. Each book features a larger-than-life threat that they must diffuse and book one, Fatal Mistake has just released. I’m so thrilled to share the details of this book with you.

Fatal Mistake

Each day could be her last…but not if he can help it.

Tara Parrish is the only person ever to survive an attack by the Lone Wolf bomber. Scared and emotionally scarred by her near death, she goes into hiding with only one plan–to stay alive for another day. She knows he’s coming after her, and if he finds her, he will finish what he started.

Agent Cal Riggins has had only one goal for the past six months–to save lives by ending the Lone Wolf’s bombing spree. To succeed, he needs the help of Tara Parrish, the one person who can lead them to the bomber. Cal puts his all into finding Tara, but once he locates her, he realizes if he can find her, the Lone Wolf can, too. He must protect Tara at all costs, and they’ll both need to resist the mutual attraction growing between them to focus on hunting down the bomber, because one wrong move could be fatal.
