Thawing Out the Ice Princess

Much like my hero in Bang, Isaac Camacho, I am sucker for a bitchy blonde. Not on the same *ahem* personal level that he is but every suspense writer will tell you that writing a villain is WAY more fun than just about anything else. Seriously. They are a blast. So when it came time to transform Tamara Post from the villain in Brazen to the heroine in Bang, well, you know I had some work to do. Here’s how I did it.

It Starts With Proper Motivation

Tamara is a former beauty queen and current gold digger who only cares about one thing in life: her dead sister’s niece. She is a self-admitted conniving opportunist, but there’s something about hanging around the security experts at B-Squad that starts to defrost her a bit. I can’t give away too much without spoiling Bang, but no one is more surprised than she is to have fit in with the group of mercenaries, investigators and con artists who are using their talents to help those who can’t help themselves.

Add In Motivation Of Another Kind

So Tamara is now a fish out of water, which makes her a bit more relatable as a character. That means it’s time to add a little something extra. In Bang, that meant throwing Tamara together with the tall, dark and delicious freelance investigator Isaac Camacho. He is a total player and loves a blonde with a bad attitude. All her icy reserve does is make him more curious. Because they are opposites who are very much attracted to each other, they play off each other’s strengths and help with each other’s weaknesses. The attraction their both fighting can’t be denied though. That works out well when the bad guys make an appearance and everything goes crazy, which tends to happen when you’ve kidnapped a power-hungry cult leader’s daughter, who happens to be your niece.

Crank Up the Action

Chaos brings out a person’s real character and that is one of my favorite things about writing romantic suspense. This allows Tamara to really show her inner character, which turns out to be a whole lot more fiery than her ice princess exterior promises. When she and Isaac, along with the rest of the B-Squad, have to rescue Tamara’s niece from her father’s clutches they both show who they really are. That’s when that love connection happens and that jacks up the stakes for everyone involved. That means that Tamara has to shed all pretenses of being the kind of cold-hearted person she pretends to be.

Let Her Burn Bright

After all that you get to the climax where our now former ice princess Tamara gets the opportunity to really show her passion, loyalty and love. Once that happens, she can’t ever go back to being the kind of person she was before.

But don’t worry, that doesn’t mean she turns into a push over. Nope. Isaac still ends up with a blonde who can get frosty when needed—just the kind of woman he loves.

Bang: B-Squad Book Two by Avery Flynn

Freelance investigator Isaac Camacho has a weakness for bitchy blondes, and no one fits the bill quite like former beauty queen and gold digger Tamara Post. She’s sexy, feisty and on the run from a cult leader. Complicated women? Oh he loves them almost as much as he loves watching Tamara act like a total ice queen when he knows she burns white hot.

Calculating opportunist Tamara Post never cared what anyone thought about her—except for her sister. But when her sister dies, it’s up to Tamara to hide her teenage niece so the girl’s cult leader father can’t marry her off to one of his disciples. The last thing Tamara has time for is Isaac—a man who flirts as well as he fills out a pair of worn jeans and whose stubborn determination to help makes it hard to act as if she’s really as cold as she appear.

When the bad guys find her, there’s only one person Tamara can depend on to help keep her alive until her niece is safe. But once the life and death chase is on, it’s not just their lives Tamara and Isaac are risking…but their hearts.
