When Things Fall Apart

Giveaway Alert!

It was one of those excruciating moments when no matter how carefully I planned and how hard I tried to make it work, it all fell apart and came crashing down around me. I had considered all of the angles and planned for every contingency—or so I thought. I can’t count the number of times I’ve heard that Life rarely goes according to plan. And while the rational part of my brain accepts this, there’s that other part of me—the optimistic dreamer—that whispers:  But sometimes it does. It’s the sometimes that intrigues me and captures my focus. And when that delectable carrot is dangled in front of my face, it’s all I can think about. After all, there are those rare moments when a plan actually comes together. I secretly hope that I’ll beat the odds and be one of the few who actually pulls it off!
Of course for every victory there are a thousand other times when “things didn’t go according to plan.” John Lennon had it right when he said: Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans
It was in this frame of reference that I began working with my writing partner to craft my latest novel, When Darkness Falls.

Chloe Kensley is a planner. She knows what she wants and is willing to work hard to get it. Her planning pays off, for she’s about to marry her childhood sweetheart, Dan, and live happily ever after. As she stands in front of a full-length mirror, gazing at her reflection, her biggest worry is that she will be forced to wear the hideous wedding dress that has been in Dan’s high-society family for generations. Little does she know that in a few short hours, everything will crumble. A roadside bomb in Afghanistan kills Dan, and she learns that he was unfaithful to her. To make matters worse, she starts seeing his ghost!

Fearing that she’s losing her mind, Chloe makes a drastic change and moves across country to start a new life. She gets caught up in a love triangle with two very different brothers—Garrett, the renegade playboy who sweeps her off her feet the moment he meets her, and Hank, the strait-laced older brother who also happens to be her boss.

Still haunted by Dan’s ghost, Chloe fights to put her life back together as she gets caught up in the glamorous yet turbulent lives of the brothers.

She soon learns that the man she loves has a dark past that includes high-dollar jewel theft and prison. When tragedy strikes, she becomes the pawn in a deadly game of intrigue and betrayal where she must fight to stay alive amidst the growing darkness. Will the ghosts of the past destroy her in the end, or will she finally be delivered when darkness falls?
