The Twist

With: Rachel Carrington

Congratulations to "Addy K.", the winner in Rachel's giveaway. Thank you to all who participated!

I’ve been reading romantic suspense novels for as long as I can remember, and while I enjoy the novels where I already know who the killer is, the books with the twists are the ones that stay with me. You know the ones I’m talking about. The killer you never saw coming. The sudden death of someone you just weren’t expecting. Television shows do it all the time, and while it can make loyal viewers angry (epecially if the character is a fan favorite), most of the time, the ploy works.

When I began writing the Discovering Emily series, I didn’t know who the killer was going to be, only that there was going to be a killer. As I finished Connecting Strangers, I determined who it was going to be, and I knew I’d have to find a way to make it real. As scary as it is to me, I can usually get inside the mind of the villains I write. That’s probably because I’ve spent so much of my life working as a paralegal. That alone has helped me identify key characteristics I use in the criminals I write.

This story has been different because it’s a first person series, and I couldn’t share those traits with the readers. I had to make the twist both believable and one no one saw coming. Then I had to convince readers this person could really be a killer in spite of what they may know about him or her.

I hope, once you’ve had the chance to read Being Lovers, you’ll let me know if I’ve succeeded. And please don’t hate me for my choice. Someone had to be the killer.

Being Lovers

Escaping my past has become a full-time job for me. Ever since my boyfriend died, I’ve been running from something—his father, a hired hitman, the truth. If I didn’t have Adam, I don’t think I would have survived. He’s become my lifeline.

It only took us weeks to fall in love. Yes, it was quick, but love doesn’t tell time. At first, it might have been two desperate people coming together, but now, I know it’s real. I wish I could say we’ve lived happily ever after since. But there’s a price on my head.

Protecting me from a sniper has become Adam’s sole purpose in life, and I hate that our relationship is surrounded by guns, blood, death, and lies. Add betrayal to the mix, and I begin to wonder if what we’ve found, this unique bond we share, will last.

One thing is certain. Someone is trying to kill me, and losing Adam will do just that.

Available December 18, 2015 from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, Google, Smashwords, and more.

About Me
I started writing years ago, and my first attempt was a contemporary romance that will never see the light of day. I think I may even have thrown it away by now. It was absolutely horrific as I knew nothing about well…anything to do with writing.

After that, I started writing fantasy romances about wizards and wizards, and once those took off, I segued to paranormal romances (hello, vampires and ghosts) and romantic suspense. I also write articles for various magazines, including The Writer’s Journal, Writer’s Magazine, Writer’s Weekly, Writing for Dollars, Absolute Write, and Funds for Writers.
I’m fortunate to make my home in historical Charleston, South Carolina. Beautiful city. Beautiful people. When I’m not writing, I love to read, create videos, keep Target in business, play visitor in my city, and drink lots of coffee.
