THE SAINT
I remember watching The Saint with Val Kilmer and
Elisabeth Shue and thinking, "Damn, I wish I wrote that." It had it all. A hot guy (with impeccable
hair). A geeky, beautiful heroine. Exotic destinations. The KGB! Every romantic
suspense novel should have an appearance by the KGB! Simon (The Saint) climbs
down into a frozen Russian river, and naturally only naked flesh against naked
flesh can keep him from succumbing to hypothermia!

THE MUMMY
If I was living out my favorite romance movie it
would have to be The Mummy. I just
love Brendan Frasier and Rachel Weisz’s chemistry together. He has the perfect
balance of respect and protectiveness towards her – it’s almost palpable. Plus,
if I was living that movie, I’d get to walk around saying, “I am proud of what
I am. I am… a librarian!”

DAVE
If I could live
in a fantasy world, I would replace Sigourney Weaver in the movie DAVE. I loved Kevin Kline as the kind-loving
imposter who took the place of the president.
I’d make the world a better place and be smiling the whole time doing
it. He’s my absolute favorite!

Living as Lucy in
WHILE YOU WERE SLEEPING
My favorite romantic movie is While You Were
Sleeping, starring Sandra Bullock and Bill Pullman. Lucy has a crush on a man
who rides the train. When Peter falls on the tracks one day, she saves him and
ends up at the hospital. A nurse overhears her mumbling about being his
girlfriend and BOOM, she's sitting next to his bed and meeting his family. It's
so wrong, and she knows it. But it isn't
until she meets Peter's brother, Jack, that she realizes she's with the wrong
man. The harder she tries to tell the truth, the worse things become. Instead
of spending Christmas alone, she's surrounded by her new family. She agrees to
marry Peter and is standing at the altar when she finally admits that she's in
love with Jack.
It's sweet and funny! I love a happy ending, especially when it’s
the girl-next-door who thinks she knows exactly what she wants.

Living as Allie in
THE NOTEBOOK
I would want to
live out The Notebook. I love how both characters went on to do other things
with their lives, but they eventually found a way back to the love they shared.
I love the passion between them and Noah's support of Ally's painting,
something she loves to do. I would also hope to be with my love right up until
the day I died.

AMERICAN DREAMER
One of the reasons I love writing romantic
suspense is that my heroes and heroines really do live their convictions. They
sacrifice for the people they love. Even through their flaws, in the end they
are unselfish, courageous and worthy. I
always hope I would be heroic if faced with the same challenges. But we all
have doubts and fears. In American Dreamer, through a bump on the head, the
heroine forgets her past and her doubts and her fears and believes she’s the
heroine of a romantic thriller series. She begins to live the life of a
heroine, to dangerous—and hilarious—results. Her fantasy gets caught up in
others’ reality. It’s one of my all-time faves!

FOOL’S GOLD
If I lived in a romantic suspense movie, I’d
definitely want to live in Fool’s Gold. Adventure, water, and sun! Spending my
days scuba diving, yachting around the tropics and finding sunken treasure with
the one I love sounds like paradise!

Living as Nora in
THE THIN MAN
After much thought, I settled on the original of
The Thin Man series. Based on a Dashiell Hammet mystery, Nora (Myrna Loy) is a
socialite wife to her detective/husband Nick Charles (William Powell). No
matter how long I do Nutrisystem, I won’t have a long lean body like Mryna Loy,
but it’s fun to fantasize. Quick and quirky dialogue + the relationship between
Nick and Nora, which steamed from the screen, kept movie goers returning again
and again.

Living as Joan in
ROMANCING THE STONE
I'd love to be Joan Wilder in Romancing the Stone
because she's so successful as a writer that men in a remote town in Columbia
have read her book and because she has wild adventures with a dashing hero. And
because my book set in Peru features gold plates, a handsome hero and a jungle
trek.

Living as Reggie in
THE CLIENT
One of my fave movies of all time is The Client.
(Lol, yes, I know it’s based on a book). So I don’t smoke like Reggie, but I am
pretty sarcastic. I love that this little kid with no money came to her, and
she wanted to kick him to the curb but couldn’t. She’s strong and not afraid to
go after the bad guys no matter the danger.

Living as Kate in
KATE & LEOPOLD
A history buff, I'm a sucker for a great time
travel romance. As a teen I swooned over Christopher Reeve in Somewhere in Time
and adored those dreamy turn-of-the-century hats and white dresses. In this
millennium, my vote goes to Kate & Leopold, where we find Meg Ryan and Hugh
Jackman at their best. Smart, funny, sexy, and ultimately suspenseful! Time can
be a powerful and cruel villain.

SHANGHAI KNIGHTS
A movie I think would be fun(ny) to “live” is
Shanghai Knights. It stars Jackie Chan
(as Chon Wang) and Owen Wilson (as Roy O'Bannon). It’s goofy and fun, but it does have suspense,
and one of my favorite scenes is when Chon Wang's sister (Roy's love interest)
runs into Jack the Ripper, kicks him in the head and knocks him into the
river. (Now you know why Jack the Ripper
stopped killing!)

KNIGHT AND DAY
I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to be June in KNIGHT AND DAY. This movie represents my books and ultimate wish list! I write about
heroines caught in the wrong place at the wrong time, then taken on an
adventure with the man they complete. What a dream! This movie hits all the
right buttons for me with it's humor, honor, action, chemistry and music. I
actually write every book to the soundtrack. I love the dialogue. It's one of
my favorite movies to quote. "With me. Without me," has become a
favorite with me and my hubby. Along with, "It's someday, Roy."

DeleteThe Saint is such a good choice, Angi! I love that movie!!
ReplyDeleteSo many men to fall in love with in that movie !! LOL
DeleteWhat a fun post! I see several I'd love but Joan Wilder is my favorite with Nora Charles coming in a very close second.
ReplyDeleteI can't argue with any of these choices. I'd hate to have to rank them.
DeleteGreat post - was fun seeing all the films! I loved The Mummy - or rather Oded Fehr *blush* Also adored the Joan Wilder character.
ReplyDeletethump * thump * thump
DeleteMy goodness, Angi, this may be the best blog post ever! Love the films people chose and watching the clips. I hadn't seen a clip of The Thin Man in ages, but the dialogue was a quick and clever as I remembered. Thanks for this. So glad I could participate. I'll be sharing for sure.
ReplyDeleteThanks for participating, Marsha !
DeleteGreat movie choices! Saw Romancing the Stone 22 times at the theater when it came out! Movies were a lot cheaper then! I love American Dreamer. Poor Tom Conti was always one step behind. While You Were Sleeping has my favorite movie line, "Peter once asked me when it was I fell in love with Jack, and I told him, "It was while you were sleeping!"" (Sigh) If you watch the movie, you'll understand. I think if I could live out a movie it would have to be either Romancing the Stone or Pillow Talk with Rock Hudson and Doris Day. They were so good together and Rock Hudson was tall, dark, and handsome. (Another sigh) They don't make movies like that any more. Funny, no one wanted to be a Bond girl!
ReplyDeleteHAHA -- You're right Debbie.
DeleteNo Bond girls here!
AND I LOVE the Doris Day movies. My daughter and I sometimes have a marathon.
I love everyone's movie choices! So many fun ones...several I'd agree that would be good to "star" in and a few new ones for my TBW pile!
ReplyDeleteOnly one movie I haven't seen and that's AMERICAN DREAMER. I'm going to have to BUY it---not offered on Amazon or NetFlix. Sigh...
DeleteI know - and after hearing both Robin and B.J. rave about it, that's one I want to try, too! ;)
DeleteThis was such a fun post. All of the movies clips were enjoyable and I could agree with more than one that I would love to live in that world. Thanks for the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it, Joan.
DeleteFun post :) I think I'd go with Belle. Look at her library!!! :) thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThat's a really great reason.
DeleteGreat post, Angi! Thanks for including all of us! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for helping me out !!
DeleteWonderful books and such a fun post - loved reading it and learning about different books as well.
ReplyDeleteMaybe Maureen will let us do another one . . Maybe our favorite spies.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed it.
Angi! I love this! What great movies. The ones I haven't seen, I'm including on my Netflix list!!! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteThanks for joining us Robin !! --I bet your NetFlix list is longer than mine.
DeleteBeauty and the Beast for the library and Kate & Leopold - love Hugh Jackman.
ReplyDelete~ YUM ~
Delete!! Books & Hugh !!
I have to agree! Hugh Jackman is the character inspiration for Kyle "Mac" McKenzie in my Profiler series books! ;)
DeleteSOOOO....after our Valentine's Date...
ReplyDeleteWe rented THE SAINT last night. Awesome to see it again.
Great move choices. Loved The Saint too - I would like to be Anne in The Big Easy or Cora in Last of the Mohicans
