MY HEROINES TAKE THE LEAD

Congratulations to "Kimberly P.", the winner in Angi's giveaway. Thank you to all who participated.

Hello again JRS readers. I've been having fun on vacation and building a new world for my writing. BODYGUARDS IN HEELS launches in late October. It's my new digital novella series featuring cousins who form a bodyguard and detective agency in my favorite city of Dallas, Texas.

What's it about? The hot Texas landscape, five cousins with sensory powers they're trying to harness, and a meddling grandmother who wants them all to live happily ever after. Different from the Intrigues I usually write where the hero's normally in charge. Challenging to write for that very reason.

What do you, as a reader, like about a heroine who can hold her own? Does the hero find it intimidating when the woman he's falling for can fight, shoot or investigate with the best of them? Do you have a favorite female character?

I am a CHARMED fan. I can be flipping channels, come across an episode and the next hour flies by. I loved everything about ALIAS. Kickass heroines. Capable women. Intrigue, suspense, love. Fans were always wondering if they'd ever find a man who could keep up. (Sort of like watching BONANZA where the biggest question was if any of the brothers could fall in love.)

So did I really enjoy CHARMED because of the characters (yes) or was it the potential love interest?  I know  one of the reasons I watched ALIAS was to find out if she'd fall for Michael Vartan or Bradley Cooper. I guess you can tell who got my vote from the beginning…

I can't possibly compare my novellas to these two great television shows. I just hope to keep the stories as interesting and enjoyable.  Thanks for hanging with me a while.

  2. Love Angi's books. This series sounds like it will be fantastic. Love a heroine that can hold their own. I love Beckett on Castle - she can definitely hold her own.

  3. I was a big fan of Charmed and Alias... I like all types of heroines... why not have someone that can hold their own or even help a guy if it is needed... Eve from JD Robb's In Death series kicks some butt.

  5. oooh... I totally dig a kick*ss heroine :) And if the hero can take it and not feel threatened or go all alphole, even better!!! My best example would be the women of Battlestar Galactica. I don't know if it was b/c it was a futuristic sci fi series where 1/2 the women were humanoid "robots" but the women were treated as equals and took and gave as good as the guys. thanks for sharing!

    1. Erin, I remember both BATTLESTAR GALACTICAs and I have to admit that the female Starbuck (played by Katee Sackoff) was an excellent character. Very strong, yet loved deeply.

  9. Your new series sounds wonderful and I'm looking forward to reading your new style. Love strong heroines. Ella, in the movie "Ella Enchanted" is a good example and so much fun to watch....determination, speaks her mind, yet always kind.
Also want to read Twelve Shades of Midnight. Love all your stories!
