When Endings are Beginnings

Congratulations to "Erin" the winner in Kylie's giveaway. Thank you to all who participated!

This topic is a bit apropos for me, since I am approaching an ending of sorts.  Today marks my last day of teaching.  It’s bittersweet, of course.  Teaching has been part of my identity for longer than I’ve been writing.  How do I stop being something that I’ve spent decades becoming? I look forward to discovering that answer in the next several months as I transform into a full-time writer.  And precisely because I’m a writer, when the book closes on teaching, I expect a happy-ever-after.

Every reader that has devoured a story, invested in the hero and heroine and sighed when she’s turned that last page has experienced both a beginning and an ending. The on-page story has concluded, but the literary HEA for our hero and heroine is just starting.

A true book lover never wants the story to end, hence the popularity of series.  With connected books readers can return to a beloved setting, revisit favorite characters or check in with the latest happenings of a large extended family.  Or, in the case of my CIRCLE OF EVIL trilogy, the reader can revisit their favorite serial killers. :)

FACING EVIL will be the June finale of three connected books that take place in the heartland.  Iowa DCI agent Cam Prescott and forensic psychologist Sophie Channing are investigating the kidnap and murder of multiple victims.  In Chasing Evil Sophie very nearly becomes Mason Vance’s latest victim.  The story continues in Touching Evil when Sophie and Cam trail Vance’s partner.  But neither realizes the mastermind is still at large until it’s almost too late, when they are Facing Evil.

This trilogy is the first I’ve written that has an overarching love story.  So not only will this book tie up the suspense plot that began in book one,  it will also present an ending for Cam and Sophie.  And because as readers we demand a happy ever after…well, I’ll let you be the judge of whether the ending of the trilogy presents a new beginning for the hero and heroine!

  2. Good luck Kylie with your full time writing career. It must be tough leaving the classroom after all those years but I know that teaching takes many hours beyond the classroom so it must have been tough to find time to write while doing it.
