Congratulations to "Erin F." the winner of Elizabeth's giveaway. Thank you to all who participated!
“Born to be FBI.”

But ask her to go and socialize with a group of her peers? Or ask her if her colleague Mac is romantically interested in her? She has no clue.
It’s a dichotomy that was fun and interesting to create. I loved the idea of a heroine who’s strong and capable in her profession, but somewhat insecure in her personal life. I gave her a background to bring her to this point: her best friend disappeared when Evelyn was twelve and was never found. That day has defined Evelyn ever since – it led her to the FBI and it’s made her inherently wary and self-contained.
In HUNTED, Mac works hard to get past her defenses and prove himself to her. At one point in the story, he remembers when he first met her:
“…[She] held her shoulders a little too straight, jutted out her chin a little too far and gazed at the world with those too-intense eyes, daring anyone to mess with her. The minute he’d met her in Greg’s office, he hadn’t been able to resist taking that dare.
But the joke had been on him, because he’d fallen hard and she had no clue.”
Throughout HUNTED, as Mac is trying to get past Evelyn’s defenses, Evelyn is being tracked in a much more sinister way. The Bakersville Burier, the serial killer she’s profiling, finds out about her involvement in the case, and he’s determined to turn the tables on her. As she’s tracking him down, he’s also tracking her, and this time, he plans to make sure she’s the one who disappears…

HUNTED
Terror stalks a small Virginia town…
FBI rising star, criminal profiler Evelyn Baine, knows how to think like a serial killer. But she’s never chased anyone like the Bakersville Burier, who hunts young women and displays them, half-buried, deep in the woods. As the body count climbs, Evelyn’s relentless pursuit of the killer puts her career – and her life – at risk. And the evil lurking in the Burier’s mind may be more than even she can unravel.
Terror is closer than she thinks…
The Bakersville Burier knows he’s got an FBI profiler on his trail. He knows who she is and where to find her. And he’s biding his time, because he’s planned a special punishment for Evelyn. She may have tracked other killers, but he vows to make this her last chase. This time it’s her turn to be hunted!

Ooooh, want! I've been on the waitlist at the library for this one essentially since it came out because I'm a poor little not-technically-a-grad-student-anymore and, for some reason, my landlord actually demands money for rent :)

DeleteHi, Cris! Thanks so much for jumping on the waitlist for HUNTED! (Those pesky landlords! )
Your book sounds fabulous! I'm off to "hunt" it down (I read eBooks exclusively). Thanks for the post!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jonetta! I hope you enjoy it! (And love your play on words!)
DeleteHi, Cris! Thanks so much for jumping on the waitlist for HUNTED! (Those pesky landlords! )
ReplyDeleteThat really was one of my favorite excerpts from the book. Such a fantastic read. Congrats on all your success with this story!! I already can't wait for the next book. When is it coming?
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you so much, Barb! Even though the love interest plays a smaller part in my suspense, Kyle will be back in future books and I have more planned for him and Evelyn! The sequel, VANISHED, is scheduled for Jan. 2015, and in it, Evelyn gets a chance to find out what happened to her best friend, who disappeared eighteen years earlier.
ReplyDeleteCongrats to you on your brand new release, Rancher Rescue! Can't wait for my copy to arrive!
HUNTED sounds like a book I would really enjoy! How many books are planned for these characters? Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Colleen! Right now, there are two books firmly scheduled in the Profiler series (the sequel comes out next year), but hopefully it will continue well beyond that...
DeleteInteresting blurb

Hi, Martha! Thank you so much...HUNTED is actually more of a straight suspense (although there is a love interest and that relationship is going to keep developing in the sequel!).
DeleteI always appreciate a good serial killer - an oxymoron if ever there was one.

Funny, Mary! ;) I'm with you, though...I write what I love to read!
DeleteSounds like my kind of book. I love finding New authors. Thanks for the chance to win. trishleroy49 at gmail dot com

Thank you very much, Maureen! It was a lot of fun to create Evelyn - I like that she has room to grow in the series, and it was interesting to create that dichotomy of how capable she is in her job with her social insecurities.
DeleteSounds like a great book! I cant wait to read it!!

Thank you! So happy to be here and giving away a copy to a new reader! :)
ReplyDeleteThis one looks fantastic, I am really into crime driven stuff so this fits that bill! I would recommend Playing With Fire by Cassandra Bella, great romantic suspense and it's a page turner. Her site is cassandrabella.net, it's worth a look if this is the genre you really like.
