The Beginning Of A New Journey

I’m excited to return to the Just Romantic Suspense blog. Thank you for sharing this special day with me.

Tuesday (Sept. 24) marks the one-year anniversary of the release of my first novel, “Love’s Secret Fire.” I wanted to write first EVER but I know that is redundant. Yet, that’s how I want to describe the day that my dream came true, and the day I began my own suspenseful journey into the world of publishing. Because one word doesn’t do it!

For years, more than I will reveal here, I’d talked about, imagined, plotted and mentally wrote a book. Sometimes it was a simple love story. Sometimes a murder mystery. Characters crowded my head and plot ideas besieged my brain.

Lots of people say “I could write a book” without really thinking about what it means. It takes focus, energy and determination. As they say, if it was easy, everyone would do it.

Well, I did it.

I took an idea percolating in my head, which was loosely based on real events, and made my dream come true.

“Love’s Secret Fire,” published by Crimson Romance, is a story about an arsonist on the loose in the fictitious city of Benton Falls. It’s about a part-time news reporter following anonymous tips about those fires and working to prove that her twin brother, a fireman, is not striking the match.  She goes head-to-head with a hunky, undercover investigator who keeps discovering clues that point directly to her brother. And in the quest to find the truth, passion flares between them.

Some of the firemen are real, some of the scenes depicted actually happened. I’d covered it as a news reporter, written about it as an author and made my debut with it last year. The butterflies still flutter when I think about it.

I could have stopped there. After all, I’d realized my dream. But like Dorothy, who wasn’t quite satisfied once she landed on the other side of the rainbow, I saw a road ahead of me waiting to be walked.

My second romantic suspense was released by Crimson Romance on May 13 and I’m waiting for my publisher’s nod on a third one.

My goal was to see my name on the cover of a book and last Sept. 24, I did. I’m so proud of “Love’s Secret Fire” and all that it signifies. A dream come true; the beginning of a new journey, and my first book. Ever!

Here is the cover copy from “Love’s Secret Fire.” What do you think?

The biggest story of reporter Valerie Daniels’s career could be the one that kills her. A part-time news reporter, Valerie is determined to prove her twin brother is not responsible for the rash of suspicious fires in Benton Falls, despite all the evidence that leads undercover investigator Adam Michaels to believe he’s caught his arsonist - Valerie’s brother.

Adam Michaels relies on the facts when he is working a case but on this one, his instincts, and his heart, tell him there is more behind this story. And there’s a lot more he wants to know about Valerie Daniels, a woman who makes no bones about the fact she doesn’t like him - or what he’s doing to her brother.

Arson turns to murder and sparks fly between Adam and Valerie. But the real arsonist has his own ideas about the heat between these two. To defeat the killer and his deadly trap, they must learn to trust each other.

  6. So many people say they want to write a book. How many actually do? Few. I did enjoy hearing your story; isn't it wonderful when people realize their dreams! Keep up the good work, Rena, and Happy Writer's Anniversary.
