Protecting His Witness

Thanks so much to Just Romantic Suspense for having me here today!

For me and I think a lot of Americans, it’s hard not to think of where you were or remember 9/11 on its anniversary. I was in college in Florida when it happened but the next summer I ended up moving around and taking some time off until I could figure out what direction I wanted to take in life. Oh yes, I was pretty aimless because I hadn’t discovered writing yet. A couple years later I ended up back in college (much to my parents relief), but in North Carolina instead of Florida. The school I attended was a satellite school to the main campus and it was located on a military base so a few days a week I was trekking back and forth to classes. Going to college on a military base even though it wasn’t associated with the military was very cool for a number of reasons. There were military men and women in every single one of my classes so even though I was engaged to a Marine at the time (we’re now married) I got to learn even more about what life was like for our servicemen. I also quickly discovered that about fifty percent of the people in my classes signed up for the service directly after 9/11—and none of them regretted it. I’ll admit, when 9/11 happened, that never crossed my mind, but I’m thankful for men and women who are much braver than I will ever be. Which brings me to my point (I swear I have one!)…

Readers always ask me why all my heroes and some of heroines have military backgrounds and the answer is simple. I have such a high respect for those who put on a uniform and sacrifice so much for their country, usually with little pay or accolades. While I’ve always thought a man in uniform is sexy (oh yes!) the truth is, it’s why they wear it and what they’re willing to sacrifice that is sexy and honorable and those are the types of characters I love writing about.

And I hope you enjoy reading about them!

Protecting His Witness, the seventh book in my Red Stone Security series is out and features, you guessed it, a former military hero. If you already read my books you know I have a soft spot for Marines, but this time, it’s all about Vincent, former Navy SEAL.

Seven years ago she broke his heart…

Leaving Vincent was the hardest thing Jordan Alvarado ever had to do, but she had no choice. She never expected to come back, or for the smoldering attraction between them to ignite into a bonfire. But deep down, she knows he’ll never be able to understand or forgive what she did, and that being with him will only lead to heartbreak.

He’s not letting her go again…

Former SEAL Vincent Hansen never got over Jordan and the way she up and left him without a trace. When she reappears and explains what happened, he’s even more furious. He doesn’t know what he wants from her, but when she’s targeted in a series of potentially deadly attacks, he realizes he’s never stopped loving her. Now he’ll do whatever it takes to keep her safe and convince her that she was always meant to be his.

Author note: Protecting His Witness is the seventh story in the Red Stone Security series but can be read completely as a stand-alone.

Thanks again for having me here today!

  1. I love the book cover and title of each books. The titles, alone, could tell the theme of the story. Thanks for the giveaway.

  2. Thanks for a giveaway opportunity. I'm looking forward to starting the series.

Is it important to read the books in order? I'm a stickler about that and need to know if characters are developed throughout the series.

  3. I would love to win the NOOK book of Danger Next Door, Thanks for the chance. I love this series and I am very picky about reading books in order, I don't like spoilers...

  4. Thanks for the generous giveaway. Looking forward to reading the series.

  5. JRS, thanks so much for having me here today :)

Jonetta, no, they don't need to be read in order. I wrote the series specifically that way so you can pick up any book and not be lost.

  6. Hi Katie,
Wonderful post! I just love reading about our country's heroes as well. We can't do enough to thank the men and women in uniform. Please extend my gratitude to your husband and all that serve with him. I look forward to reading your books.

love the cover and can't wait to read this one

  8. Congrats on your success with all your books, Katie. I love your romantic suspense books. I don't know a lot about the military, as those in my family that were in it have not been in it since I have known them (or before I was born), so I still didn't have a true appreciation for the men and women that serve. You and Kaylea Cross have really opened my eyes. Many times after reading your stories I will go online and do research about our military and what different branches do, etc. So, thank you for teaching me how to respect them more. I pray for them a lot more than I used to. Thanks and best of luck with future books.

P.S. I am currently reading TARGETED and love that your hero won't give up wearing his Hog's Tooth (that is what it is called, right?).

    1. Thanks, Amy! That's awesome that you read up more on the different branches. And yes, that's what it's called :)

  9. Hi Katie love your books and absolutely loved Vincent's story. Can't wait to see what's in store for the members of RSS.
