Congratulations to "Erin F.", the winner of Laura's giveaway. Thank you to all who participated.
One of my favorite aspects of being an author is
getting to walk around in other people’s shoes.
Through my characters, I have had an amazing array
of jobs, including cop, hair stylist, forensic artist, PI, sniper… the list
goes on. All have been an adventure, but my latest book, Scorched, was a particular thrill. Not only did I get to interview
a real, live Navy SEAL (yes, they are just as impressive in person as they are
in fiction!) but I also got to meet a forensic anthropologist and go on a
bone-chilling tour of a decomposition research lab, also known as a body farm.
Learning about Navy SEALs and the grueling
training they undergo was eye-opening. I started researching these guys four
years ago for my Tracers novella Unstoppable
and was hooked right away. These warriors are, literally, unstoppable. When
they see an obstacle they find a way over it, under it, around it, or simply
blow it up. You can get a feel for their determination by reading a snippet of
the SEAL creed: If knocked down, I will
get back up, every time….I am never out of the fight.
After researching SEALs and meeting several in
person, I could tell that the SEAL creed isn’t just words, but a philosophy
toward life that these men take very seriously. I started envisioning my hero,
Gage Brewer, who has been knocked down many
times in life—most recently by Kelsey Quinn, the story’s heroine. But every
time he finds a way to get back up and keep fighting for what matters to him,
no matter how many obstacles stand in his path.
Kelsey is her own sort of warrior. As a forensic
anthropologist, she has committed her life to analyzing bones and pursuing
justice for victims who cannot speak for themselves. Kelsey’s creed comes
straight from a woman I interviewed who told me she knew forensic anthropology
was her calling the first time she held a human skull in her hands and tried to
deduce its secrets.
Scorched
starts with a SEAL mission halfway around the world and ends much closer to
home, here in the United States. Kelsey and Gage tackle many challenges throughout
the story, including deep-rooted uncertainty about their relationship, which
has been hammered repeatedly by the tough realities of their chosen
professions. Of all the couples I have written, Kelsey and Gage really had to
work hard for their Happily Ever After.
I’m giving away a signed copy of Scorched here on Just Romantic Suspense!

Reading about and hearing the descriptions of what SEALS can do always impresses me. They are definitely good hero material. Congratulations to Laura on the new book.

Thanks, Maureen! I'm so excited about this one.
DeleteSqueeeeeeeee - so excited to read more about Gage and Kelsey after Unstoppable. Thought they had their HEA and then in Twisted read they had broken up *sob*. Greatly enjoying the premise of them having their own full length book after their short story :D
ReplyDeleteAny plans for Rey Santos *swoon* to have his? willa (at) talktalk dot net
Hi Willa,
DeleteI love those Santos men. I hope Rey will get his own book someday. He's been waiting very patiently since THREAD OF FEAR... I'll keep you posted.
Yes! Stoked for Tuesday-- definitely takes the edge off getting hit by Hurricane Sandy and gives me a genuine reason to stay indoors during the storm :). I've been looking forward to more Gage & Kelsey since UNSTOPPABLE!
ReplyDeletestalkers00(at)yahoo(dot)com
Thanks, Cris. One of the reasons I wrote this book was because of feedback after UNSTOPPABLE... people wanted Kelsey and Gage to get a full-length book, and I was happy to tell more of their story. Hope you like it.
DeleteI cannot wait for this book!
ReplyDeleteI have been anxiously waiting for this release! I have read all the other Tracers books including the novella about Gage and Kelsey. Can't wait to read this one!

I love any book that features a Navy Seal. After reading true Seal stories I'm ready for a romantic suspense that has a happy ending for one. Thank you for the giveaway and may you have continued success in your "walks".
ReplyDeleteThat is what I love so much about books - putting yourself in other people's lives and getting to experience that. I have a new appreciation for SEALs after reading so many books about them. I know that you authors try your best to be as real to the truth as possible when it comes to your hero and heroine's careers and jobs. Thanks for letting us readers walk in someone else's shoes while we read! On a side note, I have Untraceable and Unstoppable on my Nook but have not read them yet (took advantage of sales!). Should I read all the Tracer books in order or can they be read on their own, not necessarily in order?
ReplyDeleteI keep forgetting my email! jo1963jo at gmail dot com

DeleteThis series is incredible. I first discovered your books when Borders unfortunately went out of business. I read them in order, and all were great, but the Tracers surpassed my expectations. I read 4 of them over a long weekend.
ReplyDeleteScorched is going to be another winner. Even though I would buy it anyway, I would love to win it!
I really have a thing for series so please keep the Tracers coming!
