Interview with Maya Banks

Congratulations to "Sue", the winner of Maya's giveaway. Thank you to all who participated.

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Maya Banks joins us today for an interview and to celebrate the release of  SOFTLY AT SUNRISE!

Do you recall any book bloopers? Edits that slipped past you and made you say, OMG!

Oh sure. With every book. Seriously. I’m always amazed at what gets by me, my editor, the copy editor and managing editor. I have a really awesome proof reader who reads my galleys before I send them in never to be fixed or revised again and she always finds mistakes that just make me cringe.  I hate making mistakes. ANY mistake. No matter how small or insignificant. And it bugs me when readers think or assume that I’m NOT bothered by them. There is nothing more horrifying for me as an author to find a mistake in the final, published book. Ugh. Makes me twitchy just thinking about it!

Have you ever experienced a DejaVu moment, where you find yourself in a scene from one of your books?

Hmm no, I can honestly say that’s never happened to me. I lead a very dull, boring existence and my books tend to be way more exciting lol

What is one stereotype about authors that is complete wrong?

I don’t know if it’s a widespread stereotype or not, but the idea that authors aren’t absolutely normal, average, everyday people is completely false. I’m one of the most boring people I know and my daily routine would inspire a chain reaction of yawns for anyone reading.

If you were to sit down for tea with the Queen of England, what do you think your topic of conversation would be?

I’d love to see if I could get her to drop the F-bomb ;)

Our goal at JUST ROMANTIC SUSPENSE is a simple domination for the Romantic Suspense genre. Given the nature of the industry, do you think it's an attainable goal?

Trends are cyclical. Genres have their day in the sun and then dwindle and fade and then they make a comeback all over again. Everyone keeps saying that romantic suspense is dead, but so far, I haven’t experienced that at all. I’m very pleased that the KGI series has found a place with readers and that they continue to support the series so staunchly.

The KGI Series revolves around enough diverse and interesting characters to keep you busy for a very long time. As you're writing do you get a chuckle out of thinking what you're going to do to this character in the future?

Oh absolutely. For instance, Cole and P.J.’s story is the 6th book in the series, but I’ve known from the very beginning what I wanted to do for their story and it was very hard for me to wait five whole books before starting on theirs. I was very anxious to get to work on it!

Rachel Kelly has traveled a long, hard road in her journey back to her husband, Ethan, and the Kelly family. Now, as she and Ethan are poised to move into their new home, safe behind the walls of the Kelly compound, Rachel wonders if she’ll finally be free of the ghosts that have haunted her for so long and if she’ll step into the sun after a past steeped in darkness.
