The Inspiration Behind TWISTED

Congratulations to Martha L., the winner of Laura's giveaway! Thank you to all who participated.

New York Times bestselling author Laura Griffin chills with her newest novel of suspense and romance in the award-winning Tracers series, when a woman police detective in a small Texas town discovers that the only thing more terrifying than a killer you don’t know . . . is the one you do.

JUST ROMANTIC SUSPENSETWISTED is the fifth book in your Tracers series. Can you tell us about what inspired the story?

This story was really driven by the main characters. The hero and heroine were fun to write because they’re so different, and yet they are attracted to each other.

Allison Doyle is a rookie detective who is knee-deep in her first big case when FBI profiler Mark Wolfe comes onto the scene. Allison is young and somewhat idealistic, and she’s very passionate about getting justice for the victim of a brutal murder in her hometown. Mark is much more jaded and experienced. He’s convinced the detectives in Allison’s department are zeroing in on the wrong suspect, and that the real killer is a sadistic psychopath that Mark has been hunting for years.

I wanted to learn about “A Day in the Life” of a cop, so I did a police ride-along to help me understand Allison’s perspective. As for Mark Wolfe, I had the benefit of interviewing many dedicated FBI agents who helped me understand some of the ups and downs of a special agent’s job. The story itself was quite an adventure to write--especially the forensic aspects of the mystery. I talked to fingerprint experts, forensic anthropologists, cold case detectives. The research was fascinating on this one--lots of CSI stuff.

I hope readers will enjoy TWISTED as much as I enjoyed writing it!

Motive, opportunity, and no alibi—it seems close to a slam-dunk. But while rookie detective Allison Doyle’s department has ID’d a suspect in a young woman’s vicious murder, she is uneasy. Then legendary FBI profiler Mark Wolfe shows up with a startling theory: if he’s right, the real murderer is an elusive psychopath just days away from another kill.

Using Allison’s contacts at the Delphi Center crime lab, Wolfe is finally in striking distance of the monster he’s pursued for ten years. Except that as they work together, Wolfe finds the ambitious, stubborn woman a tempting distraction. And with this brutal predator, every thread of evidence can make the difference between being the hunter . . . and the prey.

  13. Sounds wonderful, Laura. One of my favorite types of reads. I love that you did a ride-along. My husband was a detective, and he's taken several family members considering the career. Needless to say, in a big city like Charlotte, they got their fill in one night. Love well-researched novels, so I look forward to reading yours.

Maureeen, I already won once, so I'll get Laura's on my own. ;)

    1. Hi there! It is part of a series, HOWEVER you do not have to read the books in order. :-) Each book has a stand-alone mystery plot and features a different romantic couple. I wrote the books this way because so often I pick up a book in the middle of someone's series and I don't like to feel lost.

So you can read the books in any order. Hope you like TWISTED.
