  1. That was such a nice posting. I've not read this series before but that just got it on my buy list :)

I think I fall a little for all of the characters I read about. But Zsadist from JR Ward's BDB series will always win out over the rest. I love the lost causes. The ones everyone else has given up on who act like a wounded ticked off bear but end up being wonderful people even if they struggle all the way to getting there.

  2. It certainly is a big plus if I do fall in love with the hero of the book I'm reading. It seems I like 'em tall, dark, and tortured, because I was just re-reading Nalini Singh's Mine to Possess and I fell in love with Clay all over again. Nothing--not even a terminal disease--could stand in between him and his heroine!

  6. I think I tend to be rather fickle about fictional guys. Not at all who I am.

In the Last Chance books, I've been worse than usual! As I mentioned on Goodreads, first is Noah McCall followed very closely by Jordan Montgomery and Lucas Kane.

No offense, but,in Last Chance, I thought Jared was rather shallow. His marriage, not based upon trust, convinced me, that I was right. I'll receive Sweet Reward tomorrow and I can't wait to read it!

Of all time, Rhett Butler and Jamie Fraser.

Thanks for the "chance" to win a book!

  8. Hi Anonymous (mjdiodati) I remember your note on GoodReads about your favorite LCR character! I love Noah, Jordan and Lucas, too. I understand why you would feel that way about Jared in LAST CHANCE, especially since, at that time, I never intended for him to be more than a secondary character. It wasn't until he made the statement about not telling his wife that I began to question him. Though I began the SWEET series with the knowledge that Jared would have his own book, I still didn't know him. Then, in SWEET JUSTICE, Jared's concern for one of the abducted girls (Missy) totally shocked me. I began to understand that he could identify so well with this girl with no friends or anyone to care for her because he had lived that life himself. Then, at the end of SWEET JUSTICE, Jared does something so sweet and special, I knew he had the makings of a hero. I hope when you read his book, you change your mind about him. He's quite gruff and arrogant but fortunately Mia sees beyond his facade. Since he's been playing a role most of his life, the fact that she can see beneath the surface to the man within freaks him out. (:

Oh yes, two of the most special literary heros: Rhett and Jamie!

  9. Hi Laurie! I love series books too. You become so invested in the characters and when you can read another book and find out what's going on in their lives, that just makes the book all the more special.

I've really enjoyed writing the Last Chance Rescue series for that very reason. Each book, though with a different hero and heroine, always had one or more of the previous characters. And Noah McCall, the head of Last Chance Rescue, appeared in all of them. Catching up with him and Samara was always a treat!

  12. Nice post. This is a new author and series for me. I do end up falling in love, somewhat, with the heroes of the books I'm reading. How can you not. There is always something about them that makes me think I'd like that in my real life.
Can't wait to read this book.

  13. Hi Shelley B! Oh, I love dark, brooding heroes too. There's just something about a seemingly cold, emotionless man who becomes vulnerable and tender when he falls in love. What's that saying--The tougher they are, the harder they fall? And it makes it so much more fun to watch him fall. (:

  14. Some heroes are definitely worth falling in love with. For me it's very the tortured heroes and/or wound souls. I also have a big heart for the loners/bad boys. One of my favorites was Zhadist from JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood.

  15. Hi LS! Thank you! I'm so glad you enjoyed the other LCR books. Hope you enjoy SWEET REWARD, too!

  16. Hi Julie! Oh yes, I loved tortured heroes too. Watching them finally get their happy ever after makes the read so very REWARDing. (:

I need to read Nalini Singh's books. I've heard they're fabulous!

  17. Hi Red, thanks so much. Glad you enjoyed the post. And thank you for putting me on your 'to buy' list! Hope you enjoy the LCR series.

Sounds like you and I love the same kind of heroes too! (:

  18. I loved rhage in Jr ward's lover eternal it probably had a lot to do with the story line but I love how he had such a vulnerability for the heroine. I love love him!

  19. That really was a sweet post....I fall in love with each hero I write too!!

The last Hero I fell in love with was Brandon O'Malley from Marie Forces' Starting Over....What a journey he had to go through to end up on the other side. It takes a Strong man to admit defeat and to apologise to those he wronged. I LOVED him and I think he will always hold a little piece of my heart!!

  21. Hi Tammy! Yes, those heroes that 'get to me' are the ones I remember and love the most. Thanks for stopping by!

    ReplyDelete
  22. Hi Joanne! Falling in love with the hero is one of the best parts of reading romance to me. Though, in real life, I admit I wouldn't have the patience the heroines often have, but that's why each heroine is a perfect match for their hero. (:

If you get to read any of the LCR series, hope you enjoy!

  23. Hi Danny! I love those tortured and wounded heros and the loner/bad boys too. Watching them melt for the heroine just makes it all the SWEETer! (:

  24. That is so true, Christy. They are just waiting for the right woman to heal them

  25. Seth was the last hero I fell in love with from the first book in Ms.Reece's LCR series. He was strong and rugged but he also knew how gentle to be with a woman.

  26. When you fall so hard for your hero, does it make is sad to finally leave the book and have it finished? Have been waiting to read these three together, which I can do now since Sweet Reward is out. I become attached to most of the heroes (and heroines) in the books I read. The latest one, because he made me laugh, was Sir Sebastian in Victoria Alexander's His Mistress By Christmas.

  27. Hi Knicole! Yes, the hero can be all tough and kick-ass, but when it comes to falling in love, showing that vulnerability with the love of his life makes my heart melt!

  28. Hi Lisa (A Tasty Reader)! I have heard such great things about Marie Force's newest trilogy. Have them all downloaded and ready to go as soon as I chisel out some reading time. Looking forward to them even more now. (:

    ReplyDelete
  29. Hi Gail! I'm so happy you fell for Seth in SWEET JUSTICE. I adored him! And oh how he loved his Honor. (:

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hi Sue! I guess there's always that hint of sadness to say goodbye to characters I've fallen in love with while writing their book. However, that's one of the fun parts of a continuing series for me. Being able to 'check-in' on those characters in other books feels like I've never let them go.

Will have to look for Victoria Alexander's new book. I love a hero who can make me laugh. That's one of the biggest reasons I married my hero. (:

Hope you enjoy all three SWEETs together!

  33. My favorite's shelf is filled with characters that I fell in love with, especially the heroes. My latest love is Stefan from Christine Feehan's story, Spirit Bound. He is complicated, protective, fierce, a warrior, and thinks himself undeserving of love. Those are the heroes I root for the most, and know that Christine has picked just the right woman for him to love.

  34. Characters are so important to me. They can really bring a series together even if each both in a series focus on different ones. Usually the ones I am currently reading about become my favorites but I always remember previous ones. In series I like to see them make an appearance, even if it's minor so I can see how life is treating them.

  43. Fortunately or unfortunately....depends on how you look at it I fall in love with every Hero. I like the dark and brooding ones. The sexy and funny ones. The confident and lackadaisical ones. Doesn't matter. At the end of the book I am always sad it is over. That is why I love books that are in a series. It gives me a chance to look back and sometimes get a glimpse of my past heroes. Can't wait to get started on your Last Chance series.

  46. Hi Christy,

I've been hearing about your books for the last year. But after reading this post about Jared, your series has just jumped to the top of my "have to read" list.

I love characters that have layers, the gruff exterior which conceals a marshmellow interior. I love characters that make you work to get to know them, that surprise you when you least expect it. Jared sounds EXACTLY like the kind of hero I enjoy the most!

Can't wait to read these books- and it just so happens I have a brand new Nook to fill up. *g

As for the heroes I have most enjoyed. Others have mentioned the Black Dagger Brotherhood and yeah, JR Ward really excels at creating this kind of layered, not-what-they-seem hero. But while Zadist is a favorite, my heart belongs to Butch and Vishous. Z was definitely tortured, but Butch and Vishous have the layers. (spell check just hates those names! lol)

I've love to win one of your books.

  47. Hi Trish! Thank you so much. I love jumping to someone's 'have to read' list! It's one of my favorite lists to be on!

I adore multi-layered characters, too. And if they're too easy, uncomplicated or too nice, I forget them almost as soon as I close a book. I hope you love Jared and see behind that icy, gruff exterior to the good heart within.

Congrats on the new Nook! Thanks for wanting to fill it up with some of my books!

I love the sound of JR Ward's heroes. I'm one of the very few people in existence who hasn't read these books. (I know, I know, I need to. I know they are awesome.)

Good luck in the drawing. Hope you enjoy the LCR series!
