  1. I think you're right on the money Allison. Romantic suspense is the perfect genre for addressing serious issues in society and allowing the reader a cathartic experience of justice - something that doesn't always happen in real life.

  2. THANK YOU! I do my best to read your blog posts. They lift me up and I always connect with your POV.
I don’t want the same old formula and from the email I receive, readers don’t either. I don’t care if the H&H meet on the first page or the hundredth or the percentage of romance to suspense. I do care about the character and the story.
My heroines are the main protagonists. The hero is strong also. Together they fill in each other’s blanks. That’s my voice and I’m sticking to it!

  3. Great post, Allison! I love romantic suspense for many of the reasons you do. I want to read stories that reflect the conflicts in real life, but also offer hope at the end. That's what makes me feel satisfied when I finish a book.

Congratulations on the release of IF I SHOULD DIE. I am about halfway through and loving Lucy & Sean's adventure in this one.

  4. @Rita ... I love that visual: "Together they fill in each other's blanks." How beautifully romantic!

@Laura ... Thank you! My mom loves your books. I'm behind. I loved UNTRACEABLE, and have the 3 or 4 you wrote after that sitting on my shelf accusing me of not reading enough. :)

  5. Very well said, on all counts.

I think some level of romance enhances any kind of story, but especially suspense/adventure books, because it makes the stakes personal. Would Die Hard have been as good if his only goal had been saving strangers? Heck, no! :)

  6. "My personal definition of romantic suspense is: the hero and heroine must survive and be together by the end of the book, and the bad guy must get what’s coming to him."

Best definition I've heard yet. Great post, Allison. Many thanks for sharing.
